GUY Sebastian has sold a million copies of his hit Battle Scars in the US.
While the song peaked at No. 71 on the Billboard chart, heavy radio play and strong weekly sales has seen the track cross the seven-figure mark this week.
Although written by Sebastian, Battle Scars was released in the US as Lupe Fiasco featuring Guy Sebastian, to capitalise on Fiasco's strong profile, and reflect Sebastian's lower profile.
The song has also received invaluable new exposure as the soundtrack to the trailer for Oprah Winfrey's new movie Lee Daniel's The Butler.
The movie, released in the US on August 16, also features Robin Williams, Forest Whitaker, Cuba Gooding Jr, Vanessa Redgrave and Mariah Carey.
Sebastian posted a picture of himself celebrating going platinum in the US on his Twitter account.
Reaching platinum with a single puts Sebastian in rare territory - the last Australians to achieve the feat were Gotye and DJ Havana Brown last year. He also joins a club that includes AC/DC, Olivia Newton-John and Men at Work.
