Hi everyone :-)
I realise that my recent comments in the news and on Twitter may have caused some confusion and controversial discussion. I’d like to take this opportunity to expand further on this topic and will attempt to articulate it in a more objective fashion, and to explain its personal relevance for me.
I have grown a lot in the last few years, due mainly to my marriage to Jules and the...
n being blessed with Hudson this year. I have come to appreciate people and life a lot more.
It saddens and concerns me for the sake of my child that we live in a world still full of intolerance, hatred and prejudice. Hudson is the inspiration for me to write my latest song “Get Along”, as I want to do what I can to make a positive impact in the world.
I understand how it’s possible that a minority of extremist religious organisations had encouraged some of its members to behave in unreasonable, socially unacceptable and even violent ways. Dogmatic teachings invariably lead to such outcomes. However, I do think this is the minority and not what most people in the world want. But it seems societies around the world are becoming more aware, educated and open-minded, and are evolving as I am also evolving to embrace a deeper spiritual understanding about life and relationships with others rather than mere submission to rigid rules.
Religion is a very personal thing, and various cultures express their faith in their unique way. Who can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that someone is right and someone else is wrong? If we want others to respect our beliefs and faith, then we must first take the initiative to respect their views and try to look for the common grounds.
At the end of the day, I think every human being on earth is looking for the same things like happiness, a sense of belonging, acceptance and safety for their family. I believe these are the essences of life common to all people and I firmly believe that if we all work together, we can eventually reach a solution.
I understand every religion traditionally believed it held a different view, but I think if we take the time to look closer, we will discover that we are really looking at the same thing from a different angle – not better, not worse - just different. That is why I honour my own faith as much as I choose to honour the faith of another.
I think if a person focuses on these essences of life, then he or she can embrace a deeper spirituality which transcends dogmatism. From my experience, I feel my personal faith has evolved to take on this deeper perspective, and as a result I feel a lot more accepting and genuinely connecting to others. Faith has taken on a whole new dimension for me and my family, and I think it is more relevant to our lives than ever before.
It is my sincere desire that this song may inspire others to embrace a deeper spirituality for themselves, which I pray would lead to a better world for our children. I do this out of love for Hudson and Jules, whom I am thankful for everyday for bringing joy into my life.
