Thanks to Adfan find, and Christopher
Might add, this finishes before "Don't Worry Be Happy" and its 2P Accreditation
I was tossing up whether to start this thread, as the information is just one person's view, but this person is a real chart guru. His knowledge of the history of Australian music is astounding. His name is Christopher and he has a blog called Australian Fun countdowns which he sadly hasn't updated since April last year.
http://australianfun...ion-awards.html
He also posts countdowns on Australian Charts. He started one a few months ago of the Top 1000 singles artists of all time. He lost motivation about half way through, but came back and finished it on the weekend. For the first part of the countdown he had writeups for each artist. So much work and effort When he came back he just posted the artist's names, estimated sales and their biggest hits. But anyway where he placed Guy really stunned me.
35th most successful singles artist of all time overall, and 9th most successful Australian act behind Sherbert, Jimmy Barnes, INXS, Delta, Olivia-Newton John, the Bee Gees, John Farnham and Kylie.
We are talking all time here. Every artist who has ever released music in Australia was included in the calculations, going back to when singles were first sold in 1955. Male, female, groups, overseas artists and Australians. Of course with sales on the most part being secretive here in Australia he had to use things like chart runs, certifications, End of Year charts etc. With the addition of a point scoring system the long charting of some of the early singles helped compensate for the lower sales back in the day.
"The most important component to the list is the singles' chart run. Using each chart run, all decades of music an be assured of an equal playing field no matter what climate the music sales fall into."
So of course singles released in the last few years had their sales adjusted down too due to their generally very short chart runs before gaining certifications. That includes Guy's singles since 2009 as well. And he didn't include DWBH either, because he stopped the count at November 2011. But even with these adjustments and no sales counting for DWBH Guy still placed so high. Just look at some of the artists he placed Guy ahead of and you will get some idea of exactly how amazing Guy's very short singles career has been from one very knowledgeable chart expert's perspective. Here is the top 100, with Christopher's estimated sales in brackets.

So anyway, not a lot of peope are interested in charting and sales like I am, so this thread is probably a waste of time. But I decided to post it anyway because Guy truly is a megastar in Australia, and his star seems to shine brighter every day, and Christopher's countdown really helps to show just how brightly it does shine. Now of course Guy has actually sold more singles than Christopher gave him, and some of the older artists above him quite a few less than his estimates I would say, but to make it fair there had to be adjustments. In the days when John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and co were topping the charts our population was a great deal less, and you actually had to go out and buy your records. Plus there were no ringtones, remixes and videos to add to the sales. So Christopher's adjustments are warranted and fair. But wow to how far up he placed Guy even with the adjustments. Just wow. And on a final note something he said about Guy early on in the thread.
"Full marks go to Guy for being able to power on after what has usually been a marked start in terms of extended success. He has become the hero of the Australian pop scene, and his sales are amazing. I hope he continues, and that those elusive ARIA awards (if they are worth continuing if last year's performance is anything to go by) finally come his way."
Glad others find this as good as I did as it really does show exactly how much impact Guy has had on the singles charts in Australia. And while some out there make stupid comments such as Guy is a has been or one hit wonder, the people who actually follow the charts know exactly where Guy sits. And it is obvious why. Just look at his singles chart history.
9 weeks at #1
55 weeks in the top ten (and counting)
159 weeks in the top 50 (and counting)
And while some of those weeks overlapped with singles, generally they didn't, as unlike some artists these days Guy does not release a single every 5 minutes So he has spent a great deal of time in the Australian charts in the last 8 years with only a moderate (compared to some) amount of releases.
And his album chart history scrubs up well too.
