Seeing that our Forum has now gone for good, this makes wonderful reading (and this is NOT one of the near 300 reviews that cropped up (true) after the shows - most of which called it the "Lionel & Guy show)
btw - if anyone wants a copy of the reviews, I've kept them. Much too good to let them disappear with age

Another fantastic review Lionel Richie - Sydney 22nd March 2011. Wednesday, 23 March 2011 10:52 Rob Manser Heading out to the Acer Arena is always a pain in the rear - it always stuns me that Cityrail can never get their act together for major events, so arriving part way into Guy Sebastian's set, along with a huge proportion of the rest of the crowd, it was frustrating to say the least. Kicking off Lionel's show, Guy really was in fine form. From his hit chart toppers, through to new material, i really cant fault Guy's performance - really he is a headline act for that size of venue on his own, but who could pass up an opportunity to appear along side Lionel Richie - especially when its no secret that Guy is a huge fan himself, and the influence is obvious. The crowd for Lionel's Sydney date was more eclectic than i expected, with a wide variety of different punters in the crowd, from scene stealing bleach blonde dancers up front, to air guitar playing "tradies", it was a sight to behold. Seeing an icon like Lionel take to the stage was an experience unto itself, a consummate showman, he delivered not only hit after hit - but engaged with the audience on a level unlike many of his peers. He really made you feel like you were sitting in a small showroom for a VIP experience, rather than an arena. Hits from the Commodores years right through to his solo material, Lionel sweated out every single last drop of talent onto that stage and into the waiting arms of his adoring fans. I lovely moment ensued when Lionel asked the Sydney crowd to participate in filming a song for Jackie Chan's "Japan" disaster initiative… we wonder where that going to show up - but an arena full of Aussies sending some love to another country was a real tear jerker of a moment. Lionel embodies all that is great about longevity in the music business - a diverse track listing - everything from ballads to 70's disco, he has done it all, and showed in this production that he can connect with the audience no matter the material. For me, it was great to see his body of work from Lionel's perspective… and throughout a show that had a few technical issues, he and his band just rose above it all, so the average punter wouldn't have recognised any issues (apart from Lionel himself calling out his issues with his in ears… which just added to the jovial and fun nature of the show.) Lionel Richie is a legend, and a down right consummate performer. This tour is well worth seeing, and with Guy Sebastian thrown in - its like getting two headliners for the price. Well worth checking it out as they head around the country. www.poprepublic.tv/reviews/live-a-e...22nd-march-2011A warm Perth Evening, 6500 of your "friends" and Lionel Richie..... What a fantastic way to spend an evening. The venue was great, well organised with lots of staff to help direct you to your seats, toilets etc... Everyone seemed in a great mood. Our seats were great, first row of the grandstand with a wonderful front on view of the stage and screens, we could see even when everyone was standing up and dancing. Guy Sebastian was wonderful, he has a great voice and seems a nice guy. But we were all there for Lionel and he didn't let us down... he was amazing for his age.... great voice, charming, witty and soooo talented. Everyone around us sang all the songs, and I teared up when he sang Truly as that was my wedding song 23 years ago. My husband and I enjoyed the experience so much we would love to go to see him next time we get the opportunity. So well worth the expense..... :-) nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Seeing him come and stage for the first time.... in person... couldn't believe it....!! @ Setlist: 80's classics, some newer songs and Commodores Melodies...... @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian - wonderful

Excellent as always and a big suprise guy sabastain was fab too. Cant wait for the next installment of lionel his play list was excellent the only thing was the concert was called Hello but the song was lost in the set. I would have like him to open with this as he did in the uk. But over all would go again for sure. He also has great crowed involvment you feel like a friend. nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: of course HELLO @ Setlist: Excellent @ Opening act(s): Guy Was a fantastic suprise would see him again and i didnt like him on idol
What an amazing voice. It was a fabulous concert with him singing all the favourite and popular songs. nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian - was amazing too
Bimbadgen Estate @ - Pokolbin @ - Sat 26 Mar 2011 @ Posted 14/04/2011 by SuToo Can't recommend this at all. The venue was fantastic - a magnificent spot. Guy Sebastian was awesome - entertaining, great singing, great personality, and crystal clear sound quality. Even the sound guy who filled in until Lionel Ritchie took the stage was terrific and great to watch - and again, the sound crystal clear. Then Lionel Ritchie entered, and the sound quality dropped so dramatically we had difficulty distinguishing what he was saying and singing, even from right down the front. It was as though part of the speaker system had died out. When we, and many others, complained, we were told the technicians were trying to fix the problem. However, IT NEVER GOT FIXED! Odd, when it had been so good before.I wondered if it was a deliberate ploy to cover up the poor quality of his voice.

The other disappointment was the amount of time he spent on stage - less than an hour and a half. Went to the Eagles concert in Sydney in December and they performed for over 3 hours in a spectacular, high-energy show with amazing sound quality. I know which one was better value for money! Would I attend another Lionel Ritchie concert? No way!
Lionel and Guy were awsome!!! Leconfield Wines @ - McLaren Vale @ - Sun 3 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: I can't pinpoint 1 moment because I loved it all. @ Posted 14/04/2011 by purplejoan I was excited from the very moment I woke up. It was a wonderful clear day. The officials at the gate (and I must say we were first in line) were efficient but friendly. Having them going through my bags didn't dampen my excitement. We had a long wait once the gates were open but the DJ was the best, he gave us all a laugh and the camera man pinpointed interesting people. It made time fly. Guy Sebastion was the perfect lead up to Lionel. He was sensational and so humble. Lionel was, as always moving. He moved me to tears and laughter. Overall the, way the event was run, was exceptional. We had no hassles from the moment we drove in to the moment we drove out. I WILL BE BACK!!! Lionel n Guy unreal nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Singing the final song along with Guy @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian was awesome. I would have paid the ticket price to see him alone. Australia has such amazing talent. @ Posted 13/04/2011 by Palagi This was a fabulous concert from starting act to finishing act. Lionel Richie sang a great collection of his songs. My only critisism would be the lack of singing his new material, which was being sold on cd outside but chose to stick to the old songs from the Commodore 's and his earlir solo hits. It was a great concert to go as a family (I took my 13 yo, 12 yo and 9 yo ) and we all loved it. nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Singing the final song along with Guy @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian was awesome. It was a wonderful girl’s weekend trip to Melbourne to attend this concert night. Guy Sebastian came out to huge applause and performed his little buns off – what an amazing and gifted artist – that voice just gets better and better and I loved the funky dance moves. He had the audience spell bound when he sang Amazing Grace as a tribute to the flood and earthquake victims around the world. Not a dry eye on the green! Lionel Richie was just so enjoyable to watch. He wanted people to party hard and we did! Loved all his hit songs – the time just went so quickly because he totally captivated his audience the whole time he was on stage. Lionel gave an energetic and polished concert performance – I totally loved him!! The last song was ALL NIGHT LONG and I adored how Lionel invited Guy back on stage. They performed beautifully together and I love Lionel and the way he showed such respect for a young artist like Guy and you could see that Guy was just on cloud nine. A special moment for me and a great finish to an amazing day of music, food and wine! This outdoor concert format was a new thing for me and I have to say I adored the whole outdoor concept and can’t wait to do it again very soon. Bimbadgen Estate @ - Pokolbin @ - Sat 26 Mar 2011 @ Posted 10/04/2011 by Anonymous Really enjoyed Lionel Richie. The only thing that was disappointing was that the marquee was away from the actual stage. Would of preferred to see The acts before Lionel and hear there music from our Marquee. Went to Elton John last year at T2 winery And could see the stage from our marquee. When Elton came on we were also seated in the front. Other then that the food was great and the pre- entertainment was good would of prefered to see and hear from Marquee.

Age doesn't seem to have stopped him and his voice is as good as ever. Venue was great, the only thing I was disappointed with was that we live a long way away and did not want to go to the earlier events, and were told that Lionel was on later than he was so missed a fair few of his songs. Never mind, what we saw I will never forget and he said he is coming back next year. So hope that is true! Rochford Wines @ - Coldstream @ - Sat 2 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: No one in particular

Lionel quite rightly pointed out he had been there for our collective dates, engagements, weddings and celebrations in our lives - so true in our case. He was entertaining between songs and created a great rapport. Builds great rapport with an audience and is vey natural and engaging. Hi voice hasn't changed over the years, its just the same - wonderful. No complaints about concert only about lack of anywhere to sit and eat your your food. Trying to juggle wine/food was lousy. There was plenty of room to have tables and chairs set up in various places. At Sandalford at least you could sit on the grass and eat and there was not much room to sit at your seat and eat as they were tied together with cable ties and they were very close nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Every song! @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian - would like to see more of him. Richie certainly knew how to get the audience involved and a few more entertainers could do well to learn a few lessons from this. It doesn't matter how good a muso you are, if the audience thinks they are just and "add-on" to you then their enjoyment factor is greatly reduced. Congratulations Lionel for keeping me entertained - after all, that's what I paid my money for ... nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian was just the best. what a fine performer and roll model. Lionel the legend. nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: 3 encores..and the engagment with the crowd throughout. @ Opening act(s): Guy sebastian. @ Posted 07/04/2011 by Batzy What a refreshing change to experiance an artist who doesnt fill a stage full of half naked backing dancers, silly effects to woo the croud, Lionel simply walked on stage, engaged in the audience from the first song to the last. everyone was standing, dancing & singing throughout. if you judge a concert by the peoples smiles as they left, this concert left perth smiling ear to ear and wanting more. nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: 3 encores..and the engagment with the crowd throughout. @ Opening act(s): Guy sebastian.
Lionel is the man! nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Dancing on the ceiling @ Setlist: Around the World, Ballerina girl, Brick House, Hello, dancing on the ceiling, All night long @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastion - a good MC but cheese central otherwise especially when compared to the grand daddy of cool. @ Posted 07/04/2011
Lionel Richie - wowed the audience nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: When he sang Ballerina Girl, took me back to when I met my husband @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian was good and my daughter especially enjoyed seeing him @ Posted 07/04/2011 by haystack My daugther who is 14 came with me as this was a Birthday Present. From the moment the concert started we didn't stop clapping and tapping our feet and enjoyed every moment. Lionel played all the old favourites and all of mine. My daugther especially enjoyed when he came back on and sang Dancing on the Ceiling. He was still as good as when I saw him years ago at the NEC in Birmingham UK nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: When he sang Ballerina Girl, took me back to when I met my husband @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian was good and my daughter especially enjoyed seeing him
Lionel Richie was amazinggg!!! nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Still, Truly, We are the World, Hello and All Night Long. @ Posted 07/04/2011 by Kristen11 Lionel's concert was incredible. He sang so many hits and the stage and lighting were superb. Guy Sebastian was a class act to start the show and a consummate entertainer in his own right. I have nothing but praise for the entire show and I will definitely come back to see Lionel if he returns next year... nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Still, Truly, We are the World, Hello and All Night Long.
Lionel Ritchie was Fantastic nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Endless Love @ Posted 07/04/2011 by KPDW What a great night. All those memories came flooding back. Truly enjoyed ourselves and danced our socks off........thankyou Lionel for me not having a voice for the last three days.....I sang my heart out!! nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Endless Love
Up close and personal nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Dialogue with the audience @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian and the band were great performers. A great warm up, good to see him up there with lionel later on. @ Posted 07/04/2011 by Tammo After joining the cues for food and beer, we made it to our fantastic seats directly in front of the stage. Not too close, yet close enought to see Guy and Lionel "in the flesh". The band members and the array of instruments used were magnificent and supported Lionel to provide a memorable experience. All the old songs and some of Guy's newer ones completed my expectations. Top show!! nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Dialogue with the audience @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian and the band were great performers. From the moment he sang 'hello' from back stage (with the crowd signing righ tback to him) up to the 'all night long' finale, he had the whole crowd in the palm of his hand. True Hollywood style - huge audience participation, lots of oohs and aahs and laughs, lots of laughs. Lionel Richie nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Wow, hard to pick just one, 'we are the world' 'hello' 'ballerina girl' all commodores numbers - in fact every song was great and sung well @ Setlist: all of it really, sorry not to be more helpful - but it truly was 'all great' @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian, really, what is there to say.....................his voice is head and shoulders above others of his generation, every word was clear and understandable. What a talented young man. @ Posted 07/04/2011 by Madeleine55 More of an experience than just a 'show' The lighting was spectacular The sound was amazing Of course, Guy Sebastian was in top form as the warm up act. For an older gentleman, Mr Richie bounced across the stage from side to side, I was surprised by his energy. All in all, in the final moments, he said "I will see you next year" As I brought the tickets as a surprise for my husband who is a Lionel Richie nutcase, I wasnt expecting to enjoy the show as much as I did. We will be back next year, if Mr Richie is able to make it to Australia nib Stadium @ - Perth @ - Wed 6 Apr 2011 @ Favourite moment: Wow, hard to pick just one, 'we are the world' 'hello' 'ballerina girl' all commodores numbers - in fact every song was great and sung well @ Setlist: all of it really, sorry not to be more helpful - but it truly was 'all great' @ Opening act(s): Guy Sebastian, really, what is there to say.....................his voice is head and shoulders above others of his generation, every word was clear and understandable.
